Note: The fifth Guru left Amritsar because of antagonism of his elder brother and went to a place named Vaddaali. With Divine grace things settled down and he came back along-with the Sikhs. This Shabad seems to be a thanksgiving to the Almighty.

(Moh-i) I am (nirgun) bereft of (gun) virtues, having (nahi koee = not any) no (gun) virtues at all; I (na saakau) cannot (pahuch-i = reach) come up to (tumhri) Your (ghaal = work) expectations; (tum hi) You alone (jaanh-u) know (tumri) Your (gat-i = state) what You are and (mit-i = measure) powers; I acknowledge that my (jeeo) soul, (pindd) body and (sabh-u) all (maal) belongings are (tuumro = your) given by You – and place myself in Your care. 1.

Anṯarjāmī purakẖ su▫āmī anbolaṯ hī jānhu hāl.  Ŧan man sīṯal ho▫e hamāro Nānak parabẖ jī▫o naḏar nihāl. ||2||5||121||

You are (purakh) all pervasive and (antarjaami) know all minds; You (jaanh-u) know my (haal) condition (anbolat) without my talking about it.

O (jeeo) revered (prabh) Almighty, please bestow Your (nadar-i) sight of (nihaal) grace, so that (hamaaro) my (man-u) mind, (tan-u) body (hoey) become (seetal = cool) at peace, i.e. my cycles of births and deaths end, says fifth Nanak. 2. 5. 121.

Bilāval mėhlā 5.  Rākẖ saḏā parabẖ apnai sāth.  Ŧū hamro parīṯam manmohan ṯujẖ bin jīvan sagal akāth. ||1|| rahā▫o.

Composition of the fifth Guru in Raga Bilaaval: O (prabh) Almighty, please (raakh-u) keep us (sadaa) ever (saath) with (apnai = own) You, i.e. enable us to conduct ourselves with You in mind.

(Too) You are (hamro) our (manmohan-u) fascinating (preetam) Beloved Master; (sagal) the whole (jeevan-u) life is (akaath) is useless (bin-u) without (tujh) You, i.e. one keeps succumbing to temptations by forgetting Your virtues and commands. 1.

(Rahaau) pause and reflect on this.

Rank ṯe rā▫o karaṯ kẖin bẖīṯar parabẖ mero anāth ko nāth.  Jalaṯ agan mėh jan āp uḏẖāre kar apune ḏe rākẖe hāth. ||1||

(Prabh-u) the Master (meyro = my) of all (naath = master) looks after (anaath = master-less) the hapless, and (karat) makes (raau) a king (tey) from (rank) a pauper (bheetar-i) in (khin) a moment, i.e. awareness of Divine virtues can lift one fallen to vices to the exalted state of receiving honor in Divine court.

Those (jalat) burning (mah) in (agan-i) fire, i.e. caught in vices; when they become (jan) servants, i.e. obey, Divine commands, (aap-i = self) the Almighty (kar-i = makes, apuney = own) motivates and (dey = gives, haath = hand) guides – out of vices. 1.

Sīṯal sukẖ pā▫i▫o man ṯaripṯai har simraṯ saram sagle lāth.  Niḏẖ niḏẖān Nānak har sevā avar si▫ānap sagal akāth.  ||2||6||122||

The seeker then (paaio) obtains (seetal = coolness) tranquility and (sukh-u) peace; (man) the mind (triptey) is satiated; (sagley) all (sram = toil) running after desires (laath = removed) ends with (simrat) keeping the Almighty in mind.

The (nidh-i) treasure of (nidhaan) treasures is received, i.e. all wishes are fulfilled by (seyva = service) by obeying Divine commands; (avar) other (siaanap = wisdom) methods are (akaath) useless, says fifth Nanak. 2. 6. 122.
