(Piaare) Beloved (raam) Almighty, please (mil-u) meet i.e. bless me with experience of You within,

O (prabh) Almighty, I have (kamaa-e) performed (bahu) numerous (karam) rituals as told by the Smritis and Shastras; but I find that (sukh-u) peace of mind cannot be attained (bin-u) except by (tumr-e) Your (daras = sight) experience within i.e. becoming aware of Your virtues and commands, and living by them. 1.

but when (jam-i) the messenger of death (pakar-i) holding him/her by (kes) the hair i.e. brutalizes, (utthaario) causing him/her to wake up, (tad hi) only then (ghar-i jaavai = goes home) comes to senses – and repents. 1.

Because of (lobh) greed, a person (lag-e = attached) gets caught in (bikhia) the poison of (bikhai) vices, (hir-i = takes away) lays hands on (vit = finance) the wealth of others and (chit dukhaahi) hurts them mentally;
(asur = demon) the evil person does not (jaaneh) realize that s/he is (maat-e) intoxicated/possessed (maan-i) with the pride (kai) of wealth which can (bhanguna) be destroyed (khin) momentarily. 1.

it is only when (bhora) the ignorant person (haar-i) loses (baaji) the game of life (nipat-i = absolutely) finally and (mooka) reaches the end of life, – is taken and brutalized by the messenger of death – that s/he (pachhutaaio) repents (man-i) in the mind – the soul then repents. 2.

The human beings are here to (baapaar-i) do business in (naa-e) Naam i.e. to conduct ourselves according to Naam – Divine virtues and commands;
those who (manaa-e) please (saadh sant) the saint guru i.e. follow his teachings, (paa-e) find (pri-a) the Beloved within; this is experienced as (bajaa-e) playing of (toor = trumpet) musical instruments of (panch) five (naad = sounds) types – namely stringed, percussion, blowing type, metal and earthenware i.e. one recognizes the Divine Word within. 1.

O (man) my mind, we should (s-eviai) serve (so = that) the Almighty, i.e. live by IT’s virtues and commands;
IT is (alakh) ineffable and (abh-eviai) unknowable;
(kar-i) develop (preet-i) love (sio) with (ta = that) IT i.e. act as IT directs;
then you would neither (binas-i) perish – in vices – nor (mar-i = die) remain in cycles of births and deaths;
IT’s virtues are (jaania) known (t-e) from the guru;
one who follows the guru’s teachings (man mania) develops faith in the Almighty, my mind, says the fifth Nanak. 2. 3. 159

and (samaaiai) abide (sukheh) in peace, (m-er-e) my (manaa) mind. 1
(Rahaau) dwell and reflect on this.

(Jo) one who (marai) dies (jeevat) while alive i.e. breaks attachments in the world-play;
(so) that person (tarai = swims) gets cross (dutar-u) the hard-to-cross world-ocean;
one who (ho-e) becomes (r-en-u) the dust of the feet (ki) of (sabh) all – is humble;
(kahau) I call (so-e) only that person (nirbhau) fearless,
whose (and-esia) worries are (mit-e = erased) are eliminated – by committing no transgressions,
by following (upd-esia) the instructions of (sant) the guru, o my mind. 1.

(Jis-u jan) the person who finds (sukh-u) comfort in – living by – (naam) Divine virtues and commands,
(dukh-u) distress (kad-e na) never comes (nikat-i) near (tis-u = that) him/her;
(jo) one who (sun-e) listens to (jas-u – praise) the virtues of (har-i har-i) the Almighty – and tries to emulate them,
(sabh ko) every one (mann-e = accepts) acknowledges (tis-u) him/her – as virtuous;
(su) his/her (aaia = coming) human birth is (safal) successful,
