(Meyrai) my (man-i) mind and (tan-i) body (laaia) have developed (birahu) longing for (pag) the feet of – to serve and follow – (gursikh) the guru’s disciples.
O Sikhs of the guru, my (bhaai) brethren and (sakha) companions for (praan) life, please (karahu updeys-u) guide (mo kau) me (milaaia) to find the Almighty, so that the Master (milai) meets me – I have that experience. 1.

(Ja) when it (bhaavai) pleases the Almighty, (ta) then IT (meyley) causes to find (gurmukh-i) those who follow the guru and (jinh) who (bhaaia) accept/believe (vachan = words) the teachings of (satigur) the true guru (man-i) in their minds.
(Piaarey) the beloved Sikhs of the guru are (vaddbhaagi) fortunate; (nirbaani) by avoiding temptations in the world-play, they (paaaia) obtain (pad-u = status) the state of (nirbaan) emancipation from vices in life, and reincarnation on death.

(Satsangat-i) the participants in the holy congregation of the guru (jin) who (man-i) in their minds (meettha bhaaia = find it sweet) love (har-i har-i naam-u) Divine virtues and commands – and live by them – are (piaari) dear to the Almighty
(Jin) those who do not (paaia) get (sang-i = company) to be (sangat-i) in the congregation of (satigur) the true guru; (sey) such people are (bhaagheen) unfortunate (paapi) transgressors, and are (khaaiaa = eaten) punished (jam-i) by the messengers of death. 3.

(Kripaal-u) the merciful (prabh-u) Master (kripa dhaarey) is kind and causes (aap-i) IT-self (milai) to be found by (gurmukh-i) those who follow the guru, and (milaaia) meets them.
(Jan) the humble devotee (bolai) speaks (baani) words of (gun) virtues, i.e. praises the Almighty’s virtues, (gurbani = guru’s word) as taught by the guru and (samaaia) remains absorbed (har-i naam-i) in the Almighty’s virtues. 4. 5.

Composition of the fourth Guru in Raag Goojri. (Jin) those who (paaia) have found (satigur-u purakh-u) the true guru and out of those, (jin-i) who with the guru’s teachings have found (har-i prabh-u) the Almighty Master, I am looking for them to instruct/guide (mo kau) me to (meetth lagaavai = make to find sweet) develop love (har-i) the Almighty, i.e. make me aware of Divine virtues and create longing to find the Master.
Those who (dhiaavai) remember (har-i naam-u) Divine virtues and commands are (vaddbhaagi) fortunate because with Naam in their (man-u) the mind and (tan-u) body, their (sabh) total being (haria hoaa = becomes green) blossoms and becomes (seetal-u = cool) at peace. 1.

(Rey) o (bhaai = brethren) my companions in holy congregation, how I wish (aaey milai = comes and meets) I find (koee) someone who (drirravai = cause commitment) makes me understand (naam-u) virtues and commands of (har-i) the Almighty.
To such (preetam) a beloved (meyrey) of mine, I shall (deyva = give) offer my (praan) life, (man-u) mind and (tan-u) body i.e. shall do anything for him/her, who (sunaavai = causes to listen) makes me aware of (katha) virtues of (meyrey) my (har-i prabh-u) Almighty Master. 1.
(Rahaau) dwell on this and contemplate.

Ḏẖīraj ḏẖaram gurmaṯ har pāiā niṯ har nāmai har sio cẖiṯ lāvai. Amriṯ bacẖan saṯgur kī baṇī jo bolai so mukẖ amriṯ pāvai. ||2||

(Gurmat-i) with the guru’s counsel/guidance, (dheeraj-u) patience and (dharam-u) righteousness/dutifulness are inculcated; such a person (nit) ever (chit laavai) focuses the mind (naamai) on Divine virtues, and (paaia) finds the Almighty within.
(Baani = words) teachings of (satiguru) the true guru are (amrit) the life-giving nectar; (jo) one who (bolai = utters) remembers them (paavai) puts (amrit) the nectar in his/her mouth – does not die spiritual death by succumbing to temptations. 2.

Nirmal nām jiṯ mail na lāgai gurmaṯ nām japai liv lāvai. Nām paḏārath jin nar nahī pāiā se bẖāghīṇ mue mar jāvai. ||3||

One should (japai) remember and (liv laavai) focus on (naam-u) Divine virtues; they are (nirmal-u = free of dirt) purifying; by being aware of them (mail-u) dirt does not (laagai) touch, i.e. one remains free of vices.
(Nar) the persons, (jin) who do not (paaia = obtain) have (padaarath) the gift of Naam, i.e. do not live by Divine virtues and commands; (sey) such (bhaagheen) unfortunate persons, (muey) keep dying, i.e. keep falling prey to vices, and (mar jaavai) die in that state – thus they do not achieve union with the Creator. 3.

O (daata = giver) the Master of (jagjeevan) life of all creatures; You are (mool-u = root) the source of (aanad) bliss; please (anad karhu) bless (jan kau) this servant/devotee so that s/he (dhiaavai) remembers You, (har-i) the Almighty through Your virtues and commands.
(Sabh-i) all (jeea) are (teyrey = yours) created by You and (too’n) You are their (daata = giver) beneficent Master; please (bakhas-i) bestow grace that they (gurmukh-i) follow the guru’s teachings and You (milaavai) unite them with You, says the fourth Nanak. 4. 6.

Invoking the One all-pervasive Creator who may be known with the true guru’s grace. Baani of the fourth Guru (ghar-u 3) to be sung to the third beat.

Note: In the Shabad below, the fourth Guru says that all family relationships are given by the Creator. They are not a hindrance on the spiritual path. Fulfilling our duties to them is carrying out the role allotted to everyone but one should not get attached to the relatives and forget the Creator.

Hamrā jor sabẖ rahio mere bīr. Har kā ṯan man sabẖ har kai vas hai sarīr. ||1|| rahāo.

O my (beer = brother) friends, (sabh-u) all (hamra) our (jor) strength (rahio) fails – against the will of the Almighty.
(Tan) the body and (man-u) mind/soul is (ka = of) given by the Almighty; (sabh-u) the whole (a) body (vas-i) is under control of the Master. 1.
(Rahaau) dwell on this and contemplate.

Bẖagaṯ janā kao sarḏẖā āp har lāī.  vicẖe garisaṯ uḏās rahāī. ||2||

The Almighty (aap-i) IT-self (laaee) creates (sardha) devotion/belief (kau = to) in the minds of (bhagat janaa) the devotees, i.e. motivates them to live by Divine virtues and commands.
And (rahaaee) enables them to be (udaas = withdrawn) un-attached (vichey) while in (grist) the family. 2.

Jab anṯar parīṯ har sio ban āī. Ŧab jo kicẖẖ kare so mere har parabẖ bẖāī. ||3||

(Jab) when (preet-i) love (siau) with the Almighty (ban-i aaee) develops (antar-i = within) from the heart.
(Tab) then (jo kichh-u) whatever one (karey) does, (su) that (bhaai) is accepted, i.e. one conducts the self such as, pleases (har-i prabh) the Almighty Master. 3.

Jiṯ kārai kamm ham har lāe.  So ham karah jo āp karāe. ||4||

(Jit-u) whatever (kaarai kamm-i) allotted task on which the Almighty (laaey) puts (ham) us – the creatures.
(Ham) we (karah) do (so) that (j-u) as the Master (aap-i) IT-self (karaaey) causes us to do. 4.
