ਕਾਨੜਾ ਮਹਲਾ ੫ ॥ ਹੀਏ ਕੋ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮੁ ਬਿਸਰਿ ਨ ਜਾਇ ॥ ਤਨ ਮਨ ਗਲਤ ਭਏ ਤਿਹ ਸੰਗੇ ਮੋਹਨੀ ਮੋਹਿ ਰਹੀ ਮੋਰੀ ਮਾਇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

kānaṛā mahalā ੫. hīē kō prītamu bisari n jāi. tan man galat bhaē tih saṅgē mōhanī mōhi rahī mōrī māi.੧. rahāu.

 

Composition of the fifth Guru in Raga Kaanrra. May the Almighty (preeram-u) the beloved (ko) of (heeay) my heart, not (bisar-i jaaey) be forgotten.

My (tan) body and (man) mind (bhaey) being (ghalat) engrossed (sangey) with (tih = that) the Almighty, (mohni = enticer) temptations in the world-play (moh-i rahee) try to entice – but do not succeed, o (meyri) my (maaey) mother. 1.

ਜੈ ਜੈ ਪਹਿ ਕਹਉ ਬ੍ਰਿਥਾ ਹਉ ਅਪੁਨੀ ਤੇਊ ਤੇਊ ਗਹੇ ਰਹੇ ਅਟਕਾਇ ॥ ਅਨਿਕ ਭਾਂਤਿ ਕੀ ਏਕੈ ਜਾਲੀ ਤਾ ਕੀ ਗੰਠਿ ਨਹੀ ਛੋਰਾਇ ॥੧॥

jai jai pahi kahau brithā hau apunī tēū tēū gahē rahē aṭakāi. anik bhānti kī ēkai jālī tā kī gaṇṭhi nahī chhōrāi.੧.

All others (pah) to (jai jai) who all (hau) I (kahau) tell (apuni = own) my (britha) state – affliction with temptations – (teyoo teyoo) all those (gahey rahey) are themselves (attkaaey = detained) captive to the temptations.

There is (eykai) one (jaali) web of (anik) numerous (bhaant-i) types, i.e. temptations entice in many ways, (ta ki) its (gantth-i) knots cannot (chhoraaey = released) opened – overcoming them is hard. 1.

 

ਫਿਰਤ ਫਿਰਤ ਨਾਨਕ ਦਾਸੁ ਆਇਓ ਸੰਤਨ ਹੀ ਸਰਨਾਇ ॥ ਕਾਟੇ ਅਗਿਆਨ ਭਰਮ ਮੋਹ ਮਾਇਆ ਲੀਓ ਕੰਠਿ ਲਗਾਇ ॥੨॥੪॥੨੩॥

phirat phirat nānak dāsu āiō santan hī saranāi. kāṭē agiān bharam mōh māiā līō kaṇṭhi lagāi.੨.੪.੨੩.

 

(Phirat phirat-i) having wandered all over/tried other means, I (aaio) came to (sarnaaey = sanctuary) seek guidance from (santan = saints – respectful description of the saint) the guru, says (daas-u = servant) humble fifth Nanak.

They guru (leey kantth-i lagaaey = caused to touch throat with throat) embraced me, i.e. took me under his guidance and (kaattey = cut) removed my (agiaan) ignorance, (bharam) misconceptions and (moh) attachment to the world-play. 2. 4. 23.

kānaṛā mahalā ੫. ānad raṅg binōd hamārai. nāmō gāvanu nāmu dhiāvanu nāmu hamārē prān adhārai.੧. rahāu.

 

Composition of the fifth Guru in Raga Kaanrra. There is (hamaarai) at my place, i.e. I am enjoying, (aanad) bliss, (rang) merry-making and (binod) joy with (gaavan = singing) praise/practice of Naam/Divine virtues and commands and (dhiaavan-u) contemplating Naam; Naam is (hamaarai) my (adhaarai) mainstay/guide for (praan) life. 1.

ਨਾਮੋ ਗਿਆਨੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਇਸਨਾਨਾ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਹਮਾਰੇ ਕਾਰਜ ਸਵਾਰੈ ॥ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੋ ਸੋਭਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਬਡਾਈ ਭਉਜਲੁ ਬਿਖਮੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਹਰਿ ਤਾਰੈ ॥੧॥

nāmō giānu nāmu isanānā hari nāmu hamārē kāraj savārai. hari nāmō sōbhā nāmu baḍāī bhaujalu bikhamu nāmu hari tārai.੧.

 

For me awareness of (naamo) Naam is (giaan) scriptural knowledge, practice of Naam is (isnaanaa) bath at pilgrim centers, i.e. purifier; it (savaarai) fulfills (hamaarey) my (kaaraj) purposes.

Practice of (naamo) Naam of (har-i) the Almighty brings (sobha) glory and (baddaaee) good reputation; Naam of (har-i) the Almighty (taarai) ferries across (bikham-u) the hard-to-cross (bhaujal-u) world-ocean, i.e. enables to overcome strong temptations in the world-play. 1.

 

ਅਗਮ ਪਦਾਰਥ ਲਾਲ ਅਮੋਲਾ ਭਇਓ ਪਰਾਪਤਿ ਗੁਰ ਚਰਨਾਰੈ ॥ ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਭਏ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾਲਾ ਮਗਨ ਭਏ ਹੀਅਰੈ ਦਰਸਾਰੈ ॥੨॥੫॥੨੪॥

agam padārath lāl amōlā bhaiō parāpati gur charanārai. kahu nānak prabh bhaē kripālā magan bhaē hīarai darasārai. ੨.੫.੨੪.

 

Naam is (amola) a priceless (padaarath) substance like (laal) a gem and (agam) beyond reach; it (bhaio) is (praapat-i) received (charnaarai) at feet, i.e. awareness of Naam comes with guidance, of (gur) the guru,

When (prabh) the Almighty (bhaey) is (kripaala) kind; then one (bhaey) remains (magan) engrossed with (darsaari) vision of the Almighty (heearai = in the mind) within, (kahu) say o fifth Nanak. 2. 5. 24.

kānaṛā mahalā ੫. sājan mīt suāmī nērō. pēkhat sunat sabhan kai saṅgē thōrai kāj burō kah phērō.੧. rahāu.

 

Composition of the fifth Guru in Raga Kaanrra. The Almighty is (saajan) helpful (meet) friend and (suaami) Master is (neyro) near; IT is (kai sangey) with (sabhan) everyone (peykhat) watching deeds and looking after, as well as  (sunat) hearing what one thinks and speaks; knowing this (kah) why do you still commit (buro) evil (pheyro) deeds for (thorai) little (kaaj = purpose) benefit, i.e. for transitory pleasures/gains. 1.

ਨਾਮ ਬਿਨਾ ਜੇਤੋ ਲਪਟਾਇਓ ਕਛੂ ਨਹੀ ਨਾਹੀ ਕਛੁ ਤੇਰੋ ॥ ਆਗੈ ਦ੍ਰਿਸਟਿ ਆਵਤ ਸਭ ਪਰਗਟ ਈਹਾ ਮੋਹਿਓ ਭਰਮ ਅੰਧੇਰੋ ॥੧॥

nām binā jētō lapaṭāiō kachhū nahī nāhī kachhu tērō. āgai drisaṭi āvat sabh paragaṭ īhā mōhiō bharam andhērō.੧.

 

(Jeyto = as much) everything, (binaa) except Naam, which you (lapttaaio) are entangled with is (kachhoo nahi = nothing) has no value; (naahi kachh-u) nothing is (teyro) yours, i.e. every-thing/one shall be left behind on death.

(Sabh) everything by which you are (mohio) fascinated due to (andheyro) ignorance and (bharam) delusion will (pargatt = manifest) be shown (aagai = ahead) in Divine court and (aavat = come, dristt-i = in sight) seen by you, i.e. you will be confronted with your deeds. 1.

 

ਅਟਕਿਓ ਸੁਤ ਬਨਿਤਾ ਸੰਗ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇਵਨਹਾਰੁ ਦਾਤਾਰੁ ਬਿਸੇਰੋ ॥ ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਏਕੈ ਭਾਰੋਸਉ ਬੰਧਨ ਕਾਟਨਹਾਰੁ ਗੁਰੁ ਮੇਰੋ ॥੨॥੬॥੨੫॥

aṭakiō sut banitā saṅg māiā dēvanahāru dātāru bisērō. kahu nānak ēkai bhārōsau bandhan kāṭanahāru guru mērō.੨.੬.੨੫.

 

You are (attkio) captive to (maaiaa) attachments (sang) with/by the world-play of (sut = sons) the children and (banita) spouse, (bisryro) forgetting (daataar-u = giver) benevolent Almighty (deyvanhaar-u) who gave you these.

I live by this (eykai) one (bhaarosau/bharosa) confidence that complying with teachings of (meyro) my guru is (kaattanhaar-u) capable of cutting/ending (bandhan = bondage) attachments to the world-play, says fifth Nanak. 2. 6. 25.

kānaṛā mahalā ੫. bikhai dalu santani tumhharai gāhiō. tumarī ṭēk bharōsā ṭhākur sarani tumhhārī āhiō.੧. rahāu.

 

Composition of the fifth Guru in Raga Kaanrra. O Almighty, (tumhrai) Your (santan-i = saints) devotees (gaahio) control/overcome (dal-u = army) multitudes of (bikhai) vices. They have (bharosa) trust in (tumri) Your in (tteyk) support/protection, i.e. by practice of Your Naam, o (tthaakur) Master, and (aahio) have come to be in Your (saran-i) care and obedience. 1.

ਜਨਮ ਜਨਮ ਕੇ ਮਹਾ ਪਰਾਛਤ ਦਰਸਨੁ ਭੇਟਿ ਮਿਟਾਹਿਓ ॥ ਭਇਓ ਪ੍ਰਗਾਸੁ ਅਨਦ ਉਜੀਆਰਾ ਸਹਜਿ ਸਮਾਧਿ ਸਮਾਹਿਓ ॥੧॥

janam janam kē mahā parāchhat darasanu bhēṭi miṭāhiō. bhaiō pragāsu anad ujīārā sahaji samādhi samāhiō.੧.

 

The devotees (mittaahio) erase/remove (maha = great) the big (prachhat) faults needing atonement (bheytt-i) by obtaining (darsan = vision) awareness of Your Naam/virtues and commands

They (bhaio = happen) experience (pragaas-u) enlightenment, and with that (ujiaara = light) awareness (samaahio) remain in (anad0) joy and in (sahaj-i) effortless (samaadh-i) deep meditation, i.e. focus on Naam. 1.

 

ਕਉਨੁ ਕਹੈ ਤੁਮ ਤੇ ਕਛੁ ਨਾਹੀ ਤੁਮ ਸਮਰਥ ਅਥਾਹਿਓ ॥ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾ ਨਿਧਾਨ ਰੰਗ ਰੂਪ ਰਸ ਨਾਮੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਲੈ ਲਾਹਿਓ ॥੨॥੭॥੨੬॥

kaunu kahai tum tē kachhu nāhī tum samarath athāhiō. kripā nidhān raṅg rūp ras nāmu nānak lai lāhiō.੨.੭.੨੬.

 

(Kaun-u) who says (kachh-u naahi) nothing can be done (tey) by (tum) You; (tum) You are (athahio = bottomless) infinitely (samrath) potent – to do everything.

People take pride in their (rang = color) origin, (roop) looks and (ras) pleasures, but the devotees (lai laahio = take profit) are happy to derive benefit from practice of Your Naam/virtues and commands, o Almighty (nidhaan) treasure of (kripa) kindness, says fifth Nanak. 2. 7. 26.

kānaṛā mahalā ੫. būḍat prānī hari japi dhīrai. binasai mōhu bharamu dukhu pīrai.੧. rahāu.

 

Composition of the fifth Guru in Raga Kaanrra. (Praani) a person (booddat) drowning in the sea of vices gets (dheerai) succor (jap-i) by remembrance and obedience to Naam/ virtues and commands of (har-i) the Almighty.

(Moh-u) attachment to the world-play, (bhram-u) straying from path of Naam and resultant (peerai) pain of (dukh-u) suffering separation from the Almighty (binsai) is destroyed/ obviated by practice of Naam. 1.

ਸਿਮਰਉ ਦਿਨੁ ਰੈਨਿ ਗੁਰ ਕੇ ਚਰਨਾ ॥ ਜਤ ਕਤ ਪੇਖਉ ਤੁਮਰੀ ਸਰਨਾ ॥੧॥

simarau dinu raini gur kē charanā. jat kat pēkhau tumarī saranā.੧.

 

I (simrau) keep in mind (charna) feet, i.e. instructions, of (gur) the guru (din-u) day and (rain-i) night. And with that, I (peykhau) see (tumri) Your (sarna = sanctuary) protection available (jat kat) wherever I am, i.e. keep Naam in mind in every activity. 1.

 

ਸੰਤ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ ਹਰਿ ਕੇ ਗੁਨ ਗਾਇਆ ॥ ਗੁਰ ਭੇਟਤ ਨਾਨਕ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਆ ॥੨॥੮॥੨੭॥

sant prasādi hari kē gun gāiā. gur bhēṭat nānak sukhu pāiā.੨.੮.੨੭.

 

One who (gaaiaa = sings) praises and emulates (gun) virtues (key) of (har-i) the Almighty (prasaad-i) with grace/guidance of (sant) the guru; (sukh-u) peace (paaiaa) is experienced (bheyttat) by finding and following (gur) the guru, says fifth Nanak, the seeker. 2. 8. 27.

kānaṛā mahalā ੫. simarat nāmu manahi sukhu pāīai. sādh janā mili hari jasu gāīai.੧. rahāu.

 

Composition of the fifth Guru in Raga Kaanrra. (Sukh-u) peace (paaeeai = obtained) is experienced (manah-i) in mind (simrat) by remembrance and practice of Naam/Divine virtues and commands. We should (gaaeeai = sing) praise (jas-u = glory) virtues of (har-i) the Almighty (mil-i) in company of (saadh = saints. Janaa = people) the seekers, and emulate them. 1.

ਕਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਰਿਦੈ ਬਸੇਰੋ ॥ ਚਰਨ ਸੰਤਨ ਕੈ ਮਾਥਾ ਮੇਰੋ ॥੧॥

kari kirapā prabh ridai basērō. charan santan kai māthā mērō.੧.

 

O (prabh) Almighty, please (kar-i = bestow, kirpa = kindness) be kind to (baseyro) abide in my (ridai) mind; with (meyro) my (maattha) forehead on (charan) feet, i.e. with guidance, (kai) of (santan) the guru. 1.

 

ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਕਉ ਸਿਮਰਹੁ ਮਨਾਂ ॥ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਹਰਿ ਜਸੁ ਸੁਨਾਂ ॥੨॥੯॥੨੮॥

pārabraham kau simarahu manāṃ. guramukhi nānak hari jasu sunāṃ.੨.੯.੨੮.

 

O my (manaa-n) mind, (kau simrahu) remember and obey (paarbrahm) the Supreme Being; and (sunaa-n) listen to (jas-u) virtues of (har-i) the Almighty (gurmukh-i) from the guru, says fifth Nanak. 2. 9. 28.

ਕਾਨੜਾ ਮਹਲਾ ੫ ॥ ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਚਰਨ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਪਰਸਨ ॥ ਰਸਨਾ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਭੋਜਨਿ ਤ੍ਰਿਪਤਾਨੀ ਅਖੀਅਨ ਕਉ ਸੰਤੋਖੁ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਦਰਸਨ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

kānaṛā mahalā ੫. mērē man prīti charan prabh parasan. rasanā hari hari bhōjani tripatānī akhīan kau santōkhu prabh darasan.੧. rahāu.

 

Composition of the fifth Guru in Raga Kaanrra. (Meyrey) my (man) mind (preet-i = affection) longs to (parsan) touch (charan) feet of, i.e. loves to be in obedience to, (prabh) the Almighty.

(Rasna) my tongue (triptaani = satiated) is happy with (bhojan-i) food of praising virtues of (har-i har-i) the Almighty; (santokh) satisfaction (kau) for (akheean) the eyes is by (darsan) vision of (prabh) the Almighty in every-one/thing. 1.

ਕਰਨਨਿ ਪੂਰਿ ਰਹਿਓ ਜਸੁ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮ ਕਲਮਲ ਦੋਖ ਸਗਲ ਮਲ ਹਰਸਨ ॥ ਪਾਵਨ ਧਾਵਨ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਸੁਖ ਪੰਥਾ ਅੰਗ ਸੰਗ ਕਾਇਆ ਸੰਤ ਸਰਸਨ ॥੧॥

karanani pūri rahiō jasu prītam kalamal dōkh sagal mal harasan. pāvan dhāvan suāmī sukh panthā aṅg saṅg kāiā sant sarasan.੧.

 

(Karnan-i) the ears feel happy (poor-i rahio = being filled) listening to (jas-u) glory of (preetam) the Beloved; this (harsan) drives away (sagal) all (kalmal) wrong ideas, (dokh) faults and (mal = dirt) vices.

(Paavan) the feet are happy to (dhaavan) run on (sukh) the comfort-giving (pantha) path of (suaami) the Master; the body (sarsan) is happy (ang sang) in company, i.e. to receive guidance, of (sant) the guru. 1.

 

ਸਰਨਿ ਗਹੀ ਪੂਰਨ ਅਬਿਨਾਸੀ ਆਨ ਉਪਾਵ ਥਕਿਤ ਨਹੀ ਕਰਸਨ ॥ ਕਰੁ ਗਹਿ ਲੀਏ ਨਾਨਕ ਜਨ ਅਪਨੇ ਅੰਧ ਘੋਰ ਸਾਗਰ ਨਹੀ ਮਰਸਨ ॥੨॥੧੦॥੨੯॥

sarani gahī pūran abināsī ān upāv thakit nahī karasan. karu gahi līē nānak jan apanē andh ghōr sāgar nahī marasan.੨.੧੦.੨੯.

 

I (gahi = held) have taken (saran-i) sanctuary of (pooran) the all-pervasive (abinaasi = imperishable) Eternal Master; and do not (thakit) tire myself (karasan) making (aan) other (upaav) efforts to be at peace.

When the Almighty (gah-i leeay) holds (kar-u) the hand of (apney = own) IT’s (jan = servant) devotee, i.e. enables to live by Naam, I shall not (marsan) die in (ghor) the terrible (andh) blind (saagar) ocean, i.e. shall not fall prey to vices, says fifth Nanak. 2. 10. 29.

kānaṛā mahalā ੫. kuhakat kapaṭ khapaṭ khal garajat marajat mīchu anik barīā.੧. rahāu.

 

Composition of the fifth Guru in Raga Kaanrra. (Khapatt) the destructive vice of (kapatt) deceit (kuhkat) speaks and (khal) evil ideas (garjat) manifest/affect one causing to (marjat = destroyed) die (meech-u) death (anik) numerous (bareeaa) times, i.e. causing to succumb to vices, again and again.

ਅਹੰ ਮਤ ਅਨ ਰਤ ਕੁਮਿਤ ਹਿਤ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮ ਪੇਖਤ ਭ੍ਰਮਤ ਲਾਖ ਗਰੀਆ ॥੧॥

ahaṃ mat an rat kumit hit prītam pēkhat bhramat lākh garīā.੧.

 

Those with (aha-n) proud/arrogant (mat) thinking, (an) other (rat = color) ideas than obeying God and (hit) love for (kumit = evil friends) evil ideas; they (peykhat) see and (bhramat) wander in a lakh (gareeaa/galeeaa) streets, i.e. are direction-less, o (preetam) beloved Master. 1.

 

ਅਨਿਤ ਬਿਉਹਾਰ ਅਚਾਰ ਬਿਧਿ ਹੀਨਤ ਮਮ ਮਦ ਮਾਤ ਕੋਪ ਜਰੀਆ ॥ ਕਰੁਣ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾਲ ਗੁਪਾਲ ਦੀਨ ਬੰਧੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਉਧਰੁ ਸਰਨਿ ਪਰੀਆ ॥੨॥੧੧॥੩੦॥

anit biuhār achār bidhi hīnat mam mad māt kōp jarīā. karuṇ kripāl gupāl dīn bandhu nānak udharu sarani parīā.੨.੧੧.੩੦.

 

(Biohaar) dealing in (anit = not ever) perishable things, i.e. conducting the self for transitory gains/pleasures, (heenat) bereft of (bidh-i) methods of/living by (aachaar) good conduct, (maat) intoxicated with (mad) the wine/intoxicant of (mam = mine) possessiveness, one (jareaa) burns with (kop) anger

Composition of the fifth Guru in Raga Kaanrra. (Daataa) the giver of (jeea) soul, (praan) breaths and (maan) the status; (bisratey hi) forgetting that (har-i) Almighty (haan-i) is harmful – causes to fall prey to vices. 1.

(Rahaau) dwell on this and contemplate.

 

ਗੋਬਿੰਦ ਤਿਆਗਿ ਆਨ ਲਾਗਹਿ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੋ ਡਾਰਿ ਭੂਮਿ ਪਾਗਹਿ ॥ ਬਿਖੈ ਰਸ ਸਿਉ ਆਸਕਤ ਮੂੜੇ ਕਾਹੇ ਸੁਖ ਮਾਨਿ ॥੧॥

gōbind tiāgi ān lāgahi ammritō ḍāri bhūmi pāgahi. bikhai ras siu āsakat mūṛē kāhē sukh māni.੧.

 

O human being, you (tiaag-i) have forsaken (gobind) the Master of the world to (laagah-i) pursue (aan) other ideas; you are (ddaar-i) pouring (amrito) the life-giving elixir (paagah-i) putting it (bhoom-i) on the ground, i.e. the human life is an opportunity to live by has Naam but one ignores it.

You (aaskat) are attached (sio) with (ras0) pleasures of (bikhai) vices; (kaahey) how can you (maan-i) believe that this can bring (sukh) comfort/peace, o (moorrey) foolish person. 1.

ਕਾਮਿ ਕ੍ਰੋਧਿ ਲੋਭਿ ਬਿਆਪਿਓ ਜਨਮ ਹੀ ਕੀ ਖਾਨਿ ॥ ਪਤਿਤ ਪਾਵਨ ਸਰਨਿ ਆਇਓ ਉਧਰੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਜਾਨਿ ॥੨॥੧੨॥੩੧॥

kāmi krōdhi lōbhi biāpiō janam hī kī khāni. patit pāvan sarani āiō udharu nānak jāni.੨.੧੨.੩੧.

 

You (biaapio) are afflicted (kaam-i) with lust, (krodh-i) anger and (lobh-i) greed, (hi) the very (khan-i = mine) cause of (janam) birth – being put in cycles of births and deaths.

O Almighty (paavan) purifier of (patit) those fallen to vices; I have (aaio = come) placed myself in Your (saran-i = sanctuary) care and obedience, please (udhar-u) save me as You (jaan-i) like, i.e. whatever it takes, supplicates fifth Nanak. 2. 12. 31.

ਕਾਨੜਾ ਮਹਲਾ ੫ ॥ ਅਵਿਲੋਕਉ ਰਾਮ ਕੋ ਮੁਖਾਰਬਿੰਦ ॥ ਖੋਜਤ ਖੋਜਤ ਰਤਨੁ ਪਾਇਓ ਬਿਸਰੀ ਸਭ ਚਿੰਦ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

kānaṛā mahalā ੫. avilōkau rām kō mukhārabind. khōjat khōjat ratanu pāiō bisarī sabh chind.੧. rahāu.

 

Composition of the fifth Guru in Raga Kaanrra. I (avilokau) see (mukhaarbind = mukh = face + arbind = lotus flower) the handsome face, i.e. I experience the peace-giving presence of (raam) the Almighty within.

(Khojat khojat) searching for long, I (paaio) found this (ratan-u) jewel and (sabh) all (chind = anxiety) search (bisri = forgotten) has ended. 1.

(Rahaau) dwell on this and contemplate.

 

ਚਰਨ ਕਮਲ ਰਿਦੈ ਧਾਰਿ ॥ ਉਤਰਿਆ ਦੁਖੁ ਮੰਦ ॥੧॥

charan kamal ridai dhāri. utariā dukhu mand.੧.

 

I (dhaar-i) keep (caharan = feet, kamal = lotus feet) virtues and commands of the Almighty (ridai) in mind – as guide for life; my (mand = bad) terrible (dukh-u) distress of being separated from the Creator (utriaa = removed) has ended. 1.

 

ਰਾਜ ਧਨੁ ਪਰਵਾਰੁ ਮੇਰੈ ਸਰਬਸੋ ਗੋਬਿੰਦ ॥ ਸਾਧਸੰਗਮਿ ਲਾਭੁ ਪਾਇਓ ਨਾਨਕ ਫਿਰਿ ਨ ਮਰੰਦ ॥੨॥੧੩॥੩੨॥

rāj dhanu paravāru mērai sarabasō gōbind. sādhasaṅgami lābhu pāiō nānak phiri n marand.੨.੧੩.੩੨.

 

(Meyrai) or me, awareness of Naam of (gobind) Master of the world is (raaj = kingdom) high status, (dhan-u) wealth, (parvaar-u) family; (sarbaso) everything.

I (paaio) obtained this (laabh) benefit (saadhsangam-i) in company of the guru – the holy congregation; and shall not (marand = die) fall prey to vices – be separated from God – (phir-i) again, says fifth Nanak. 2. 13. 32.
